Detling W.I. is a friendly and active institute with around 35 members and meets at 7.45pm on the 3rd Wednesday of the month (not August) in Detling Village Hall. Each meeting has a Trading Stall, Teas, Raffle and Competition Table. During the course of the year we go on a variety of outings. New members and guests are always welcome to join us.
Detling Players A friendly and energetic community theatre group based in the village of Detling, Near Maidstone, Kent, England. Our regular programme includes an outdoor Shakespeare production every two years and a "family" show in Detling Village Hall around Christmas time each year. In addition, we present a wide range of plays - comedies, murder mysteries and serious dramas.
Detling Society The Detling Society continues to hold meetings on the first Monday of each month in the period from October to April. Membership is about 20, with most members attending every meeting.
The Society tries to present programmes of local interest, and during the 2006-07 season we have had presentations on “Detling Memories”, “The Coastline and Seashore of Kent”, “Sandling”, and “National Trust Properties in Kent and Sussex”. Subjects further afield were “Flora and Fauna of Provence”, “The French and Italian Rivieras”, and “How to start family history”.
The programme for 2007-08 starts on 1 October, and will be at our usual venue, the Committee Room of Detling Village Hall. We start the season with Pam Page speaking on “Stories from the Quaker Tapestry”, followed by Roger Smith with “Kent Village Signs” and Ray Austin’s “ Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast”.
