U3A stands for the University of the Third Age. A U3A is a university in the original sense of the word: a collective of people devoted to learning, with members not students, all of whom are in their Third Age. Anyone in the Third Age can join U3A and this includes people who are still working part time. No qualifications are required and none are given. There is no lower age limit for membership.
A new U3A is being formed for the Bearsted area and we will be holding the inaugural meeting at Detling Village Hall on Thursday 12th September 2013 at 2pm. All potential members who live in Bearsted or the surrounding villages will be made most welcome and are eligible to join. We are in the process of establishing new study, recreational and leisure groups and full details will be announced at the meeting. There is no need to book in - just turn up on the day!
Detling W.I. is a friendly and active institute with around 35 members and meets at 7.45pm on the 3rd Wednesday of the month (not August) in Detling Village Hall. Each meeting has a Trading Stall, Teas, Raffle and Competition Table. During the course of the year we go on a variety of outings. New members and guests are always welcome to join us.
The ReSessions are an established five-piece band, playing good, solid sounds from the sixties to the present day. We cover a wide range of genres such as pop, rock and blues. Our repertoire includes numbers by Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, 10cc, Snow Patrol and Tina Turner.
We tailor our set to the occasion and are equally at home in your local pub, at a charity event, wedding, birthday, or anniversary party.
Previous bookings include the Maidstone River Festival, The Chequers at Laddingford , The Walnut Tree at Loose, The Bell & Jorrocks at Frittenden, The Bull, Sissinghurst, The Viewpoint Club, Gravesend and The Chequers in Loose.

The Spangles Spanish courses for kids are all about making learning fun. Set in a colourful and lively environment, children will sing, dance, talk and play all in Spanish. Children will learn Spanish through games, movement, colourful visual aids, music and practical real-life subjects. With classes available for under 5s, 5-8 years, 9 to 11 years and now introducing new courses for the over 12s. Each child is awarded a vocabulary picture-sheet at the end of each lesson and parents can access the interactive members-only website to enable them to work with their children outside the classes.
For adults , the Spanish courses are focused on conversation and culture. Well structured courses are reinforced by an exclusive CD which you can take home to aid pronunciation. Beginner, intermediate, advanced, or one to one courses.
Were a small, sociable group of uke enthusiasts who meet up once a month for a friendly laid-back jam session. We have a good mix of more experienced musicians to absolute novices who have learnt their very first chords with us. Even if you dont have your own uke, come along and well lend you one to have a go. We always welcome new members, so feel free to join us on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm.
